Body Gospel Challenge Update

For the past three weeks, I have been running a Lenten Body Gospel workout challenge.  It has been such a good experience,  I had to share.

The Lenten season is a time for sacrifice, to get closer to God.  I always have the best intentions to open my bible and study daily, but more often than not, I fall short. Lately, I have also gotten away from consistent exercise, this challenge has changed both of those for the better.

In Body Gospel, trainer Donna Richardson Joyner uses the power of faith to help with your fitness journey.  I’ve opened my bible every day and have completed 6 workouts per week.  Having to check in every day has been a motivating force.  Matthew 18:20 sums it up well, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them.”

After the Loving

Hey.  Remember me?  It’s been a long while since I’ve written.  Where have I been you ask?  Quite honestly, I’ve been in a rut, so I thought I should write because you may be in one too.  We’re half way through the second month of the year and have endured Girl Scout cookies, the Super Bowl, Fat Tuesday, and now Valentine’s Day.  Now that the lovin is over, perhaps it’s time to refocus and hop back on your road to fitness.  I know I plan to. 

I watch the USA show Necessary Roughness.  On the most recent episode, Dani told TK, “You can’t win the war without losing some battles.”  That thought has stayed in my mind.  It is true.  For the last two weeks, I have been losing the battle.  I have not been making my 3Ws – Working Out, Writing it Down, and Drinking my Water a priority and Winks, forget about it!  I have to get back on track.  I plan to do so by taking a few minutes to remind myself why I am on this journey.  I have come a considerable distance, but as Robert Frost says , “and miles to go before I sleep.”

As part of the Lenten season I will be beginning a Body Gospel challenge group on Monday with some friends.  The accountability to others is just what I need to get on track.  I will win the war!!

New Year, New W

Please forgive my recent silence.  The flu bug hit my house and it was ugly.  I haven’t been that sick in a very long time.  Anyway, I finally decided my health and fitness goal for 2013.  I know it’s the right one because it’s a little scary.  My goal this year (drumrole please) is to cross over into Wonderland (I think it’s really Onederland, but you know about me and my Ws)., a place I haven’t visited in over 12 years. I feel kind of embarrassed that despite losing 40 pounds, I still weigh over 200 pounds.  Well this is the last year for that.

There I said it, so now it’s real.  If you really want to achieve something, don’t keep it inside, share it with someone, you’re more likely to succeed. You know I’ll keep you posted on my progress. If you’re on a similar journey, there’s strength in numbers.  You know where to find me!

When will your new year begin?

For those who celebrate Christmas, I hope you enjoyed the day with family and loved ones and took time to recognize the true meaning of the season.  Now that the holiday is over, my question to you is when will your new year begin?  If you’ve been eating more and exercising less, will you continue these habits until January 2nd, or will you buckle down and make today your new year?  As I have said many times before, any day is a good day to start fresh.

Because I know some of you are set in your ways and will still wait until 2013 rings in, and nothing new can start until a Monday, I am offering four options to help you start 2013 on the right foot.  All will begin on Monday, January 7.  They are as follows:

1.       Get Moving challenge group – This group will run for 30 days.  Each participant will commit to exercise regularly, which will mean something different to each person.  I will work with you to set a challenging, yet achievable goal.
