Tick Tock

Time sure does fly.  With only 14 days until 40, I am far from achieving my goal.  I refuse to panic or do something crazy for the sake of reaching a certain number on the scale.  If you’ve been reading my posts, you know I feel strongly that the number on the scale is only one way to determine your progress.  My clothes are getting looser.  I joked on my Facebook page that my micr0-mini skirts now reach my knees or below and are making their way out of my closet!  I also recently finished Les Mills Pump http://beachbodycoach.com/esuite/home/cnewyou?bctid=1301386064001 and lost 6.5 inches, but the best reward was when my daughter told me “I am losing my puffy!”  If a 6 year old said it, it has to be true!

I have now logged my food for over 30 days in a row.  I’m making better food choices, trying different things, and planning meals in advance.  I increased the number of workouts I did in July over the number I did in June.  In short, I am building momentum.  As long as I keep going, I will reach my goal.  I have learned  that it’s not my timetable, but His, so I will not hang my head in shame or regret.  There’s still 2 more weeks.  I will keep you posted!

40 by 40 -Gotta Keep it Real

Week 2 of my quest to lose 40 by 40 was not my best.  I completed 3 workouts compared to a goal of 5.  My eating was just okay and guess what, the scale reflected my efforts.  Since the rear view mirror is smaller than the front view, I will not dwell on the past and look forward to what is ahead.  To that end, I planned and prepared my meals for today and added 2 new foods to my grocery list - couscous, and quinoa.  I have 4 more workouts left to complete Les Mills Pump, then it’s on to Brazil Butt Lift.  Want to join me in Brazil Butt Lift? There’s still time to take advantage of a special offer introductory offer. Email me and I’ll give you the details.

I Missed a Workout, Now What?

Every week on my Facebook page, I try to focus on a different topic that will help on this journey towards better health and fitness. Last week’s focus was “Working Out”. While I have been fairly consistent with my workouts, I haven’t been as consistent as I have in the past. I made Working Out the focus so I could address the cause of my recent inconsistency.

Having been on this journey for some time, I have found that success is about so much more than the obvious things - exercise, eating right, etc. A big part of success on this journey is about learning about yourself. If you’ve been following along here or on my Facebook page, you know I am currently doing Les Mills Pump (Pump), a home version of the popular gym workout, BodyPump. http://beachbodycoach.com/esuite/home/cnewyou?bctid=1306891281001

One of the things I have learned while on this journey is that you have to like your fitness program or you won’t do it. I have also learned what type of fitness program I like. My personal preference is one with great music and a variety of moves that make me think and keep me motivated. Pump has all of that, so why have I been inconsistent with my workouts?

As I took the time to ponder that question, I came to the realization that I had fallen into an all or nothing mentality with my workouts. Pump is a barbell based weight lifting program and when you lift weights, in order to see results, your muscles need time to break down in order to build up, so the main program is 3 days and the other 3 days it calls for walking and an ab workout. With my new schedule at work, I can’t always fit an hour workout in before work, so rather than do as much as I could and feel some success, I had been pushing the entire workout to the evening. I must add that I have also learned I am more likely to complete my workout when I schedule time in the morning before my day officially starts. Armed with this new knowledge, I completed my 45 minute workout in the morning, so all I “owe” is the 15 minute one. I felt such a sense of accomplishment.

I had also been debating whether to continue my schedule and complete the workouts I missed at the end, but I’m a very methodical person, so that solution wasn’t sitting well with me. I decided to complete my missed workouts before continuing with my schedule. So far, this has worked for me.

Like an onion, I will continue to peel back the layers until I reach the inner core of the things that have been hindering my success all of these years. And like an onion, the things I uncover may sometimes make me cry, but I will be better in the end as a result!

I hope you are peeling off your layers and each day you are a step closer to realizing your personal dreams.

Month in Review

I had a minimal weight loss in 2011 and while I’ve learned not to become a slave to the scale, I have to admit I was disappointed in my result.   In an effort to avoid the same thing happening again in 2012, I’ve decided to track my progress each month rather than quarterly.

January really flew by.  I’ll start with the positive.  My Wii Fit calendar was stamped each day, which means I was consistent in doing my daily body tests.  I just celebrated 15 straight days of tracking my food and exercise via My Fitness Pal.  I worked out 20 of the 31 days, 6 short of my goal, so there’s room for improvement.  I found a workout program I absolutely love, Les Mills Pump, the home version of the popular gym workout, BodyPump.    http://beachbodycoach.com/esuite/home/cnewyou?bctid=1301386064001

As for lessons learned , (I will not say the n word – negative that is), I learned that heart healthy doesn’t necessarily = low calorie, but I did try a new recipe and those peanut butter bars were delicious!  I reinforced the fact that the easiest bite to resist is the first with my nemesis, Girl Scout Tagalongs and Lemonades.  I also confirmed that I am more likely to complete my workout when I do it in the morning and my challenge group has confirmed that there is strength in numbers on this journey of health and fitness.

So while the scale went up slightly, I still think January was a good month.  I know where I need to make adjustments and am prepared for a new month!  Did you reach your goal for the month?  If not, what changes are you going to make in order to reach your goals this month?
